What is gold plated?

A gold plated piece of jewelry is a piece of jewelry made of metal with a layer of liquid gold on top. Because the layer of gold (gold plating) is very thin, gold plated jewelry is much more affordable than fully gold jewelry. Another name for gold plated is gilded. All our gold plated jewelry has a layer of 14 carat gold plating over 925 Sterling Silver. The base of the jewelry is therefore silver. There is also an extra protective layer over the gold plating, so that your jewelry is protected as well as possible against scratches and damage.
